Tech-Ten: The 10 Most Important Rules for the Digital World

Here are ten tips for the safe use of computers, smartphones, the internet, AI, and other digital devices and media. (Click on a rule for more information)

1. Keep your systems up-to-date

Regularly install updates and patches for your operating system and all installed programs/apps to close security vulnerabilities.

2. Use strong passwords

Use a unique, strong password for each account, consisting of a combination of at least 10 letters, numbers, and special characters.

3. Use two-factor authentication

Enable two-factor authentication for important accounts to ensure additional security.

4. Use reliable security software

A good antivirus program and a firewall protect against malware and hacker attacks.

5. Be cautious when opening emails, SMS, WhatsApp and messages

Do not open emails or attachments from unknown senders, as they may contain malicious software. If in doubt, delete them!

6. Avoid unknown websites and apps

Only visit and use trusted websites and apps. Avoid downloading software or files from unknown sources.

7. Share data on the internet (AI and websites) with caution

Avoid sharing personal and company-internal data with AI or websites.

8. Create regular backups

Save important data on an external hard drive or in the cloud to protect yourself from data loss.

9. Avoid using unknown or foreign devices like USB sticks, hard drives, etc.

They can infect or damage your devices. Have files sent to you via email instead.

10. Be suspicious and stay informed

Stay vigilant about new threats and regularly educate yourself about IT security.
